Privacy notice: UniMAP Maths Apps

Last updated: 6 November 2026

This notice covers the interactive maths apps on this website (Matrix Workshop, Matrix Heist, Treasure of the Argand Isles and Complex Plane Lab). They are run by Mohd Hafiz Zakaria, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), for teaching and learning.

Your choice

When you first open an app you can sign in with Google, play as a guest with a nickname, or play without recording. If you choose to play without recording, nothing about your play is sent anywhere. You can change your choice at any time using the round badge on the screen.

What is recorded when you choose to be recorded

  • Your nickname, or your Google name and email address if you sign in with Google.
  • A class code, if you enter one.
  • For each answer you check: the time, which app and topic, the question level, whether you were right, which attempt it was, whether you used hints, and how long it took.
  • How many minutes you were actively playing.

The apps do not record your location, contacts, passwords or anything else from your device. Google sign-in is used only to confirm who you are. The apps never see your Google password and do not access your Google account data beyond your name and email address.

Why it is recorded

To let you see your progress, and to help your lecturer understand whether and how the apps support learning. Results are reported only as group summaries. Individual records are not published.

Where it is stored and who sees it

Records are stored in a private Google Sheet controlled by the lecturer. Only the lecturer can open it. Records are not sold or shared with advertisers. Summaries or anonymised figures may be used in teaching reports or research publications.

How long it is kept

Records are kept while the apps are used for teaching and evaluation. Names and emails are removed or anonymised when the evaluation is finished.

Your rights

You may ask to see, correct or delete the records linked to you, and you may stop recording at any time. To make a request, email hafizzakaria@unimap.edu.my and give the nickname or email you used.

Children

The apps are intended for university students and the general public. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before choosing to be recorded, or choose “Play without recording”.
